Project Estimator, Life Safety Services – Louisville KY

Position purpose We are seeking a Project Estimator who has a strong work ethic to identify and quantify cost factors and to recommend ways to make projects more cost-effective. Works with Regional Account Representatives, clients, engineers, architects and other stakeholders in preparing cost estimates.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks  

  • Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time and raw material, equipment, and labor expenses

  • Travel to job sites to gather information on materials needed, labor requirements, and other factors

  • Read blueprints and technical documents to prepare estimates

  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors on estimates

  • Utilize estimating software and web-based plan rooms to perform take-offs and generate quotes

  • Evaluate a project’s cost effectiveness or profitability

  • Recommend ways to make a project more cost effective or profitable

  • Examine project specifications to ensure all aspects of the project specifications are incorporated into the project estimate

  • Develop project plans for the duration of the project

  • Work with Regional Account Representatives, Clients, Engineers, Architects, and other stakeholders in preparation of the estimate.

  • Preparation of bill of materials associated with project estimates 

Project Estimator will be responsible for estimating the following type of projects: 

  • New Construction
       - Firestopping
       - Fireproofing
       - Photoluminscent Egress Markings

  • Existing Buildings / Retrofits / Maintenance Repairs
       - Fire and Smoke Damper Repairs and Replacement
       - Firestopping Installations
       - Fire and Smoke Door Repairs and Replacement
       - Photoluminescent Egress Markings

Desired Skills and Experience

Relevant Commercial Construction Estimating experience including conceptual budgeting.

  • Individuals that assumes total responsibility for their work.

  • 3 + years of experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of industry practices, procedures, and market trends.

  • Dedicated, well organized, able to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.

  • Detailed-oriented with the ability to focus on quality and accuracy.

  • Proficient with commercial estimating software is a plus, but not required.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

  • Maintain professionalism when faced with aggressive deadlines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact, develop, and maintain a positive professional relationship with all levels of personnel.

  • Meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning.

  • Review basic software- generated estimates for completion and technical accuracy ensuring quality and integrity.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, construction management preferred, but experience may be considered in lieu of education.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in construction industry or as a cost estimator in manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of surveying and structural systems helpful.
